Everybody loves that Friday feeling, packing up your laptop, driving home knowing you don’t have to get up early in the morning.

Sinking a few beverages with your Family and Friends.

Then next thing you know, it’s Monday Morning and that weekly Grind starts again.

Counting down those days till it’s Friday.

You all know who you are,

I’m guilty of it too sometimes.

But it wasn’t until I stepped back and looked at myself until I realised I was looking at it wrong.

There are 120 hours a week we are wishing away for 48 hours of ‘freedom’.

So why do we do it instead of making the most of our time?

Change Your Career

I used to work in a supermarket stacking shelves 5 times a week, the one thing I used to hear every week was “I can’t wait for Friday”.

I can guarantee they wouldn’t be doing anything Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Doing nothing was better than stacking shelves in their eyes. I was getting to that point as well, there’s nothing more depressing than working somewhere knowing it’s a dead-end.

Instead of continuing at the same place, I took it upon myself to move to a company with a better work-life balance, A company that allowed for career progression.

Whenever I go back to do a food shop at my old stomping ground, I see the same faces saying the same things yet they do nothing to make a change for themselves.

There comes a time where you have to take a look at yourself and ask,

What can I do better?

What can I change?

How do I get out of this place?

Try To Create A Business For Yourself

Monday to Friday there are 120 hours available,

80 of those hours you’ll spend working 9–5 jobs and sleeping,

That leaves 40 hours to eat, socialise, exercise, care for your family and start a new business.

There are so many different ways you can create a business these days, it’s hard to find an excuse not to,

  • Dropshipping
  • Amazon FBA
  • Writing
  • Etsy
  • eBay
  • Baking
  • Crafts
  • YouTube

There are so many people who’ve started from nothing and created businesses by investing their spare time on evenings and weekends. It all involves time management and how much you are willing to put in to achieve your dreams.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little to gain a lot more

Everyone loves a winddown on an evening after work with a glass of wine, watching the latest Love Island episode. If you are my age at 26 I’m sure you’ll enjoy gaming online with friends for a few hours as well.

The fact of the matter is, to achieve something you’ll need to give something up in return.

I recently watched an episode of The British Entrepreneur Podcast by Jon Joesph Bourgerie and he spoke about how he created his first business at 26 years old.

Jon Joesph tells a story on how he gave up his beloved PlayStation as payment to his friend to design a website for his business Modball Rally. He then went onto create 11 other businesses following the success of Modball allowing him to have the freedom he desired.

Giving up a PlayStation may not seem like a sacrifice to some, but to others, it means a lot. Sitting down to play games online with friends for 2/3 hours is extremely easy, and so it should be, but sitting down for 2/3 hours to work on a business seems to be a mammoth task for some.

If you removed that distraction from your life, think about how much spare time you would then have to work on a project you love.

A project that would give you more freedom than those 48 hours you so desperately chase.

It’s a hard decision to make but to achieve your goals, you need to be disciplined.

Professional boxers, Footballers or even Formula one drivers make the same sacrifices to make it to the top. It’s what separates them from me and you, that drive and determination to be the best in their craft.

Premier League footballers give up their family time, especially at Christmas to entertain the general public. Formula One drivers give up their childhood to race in European Championships. Boxers training from 6 am through till 6 pm, giving up drinking, fast food, partying and family time to ensure they are at peak physical condition going into a fight.

It’s something we can all apply to our daily lives.

Could you give up an evening with your friends?

Could you give up your evenings gaming?

Could you watch your favourite programme another day?

If your answer is no, then this isn’t for you.

But if your answer is Yes, then hopefully this is the start of your journey to finical freedom.
